Nichimo Foods Overview
At Nichimo Foods, we harness the power of nature to create innovative, high-value products. One standout ingredient in our development is kikurage (wood ear mushroom).
In recent years, it has gained attention for being one of the few plant-based sources of vitamin D. In addition, it contains key nutrients that support health and beauty, including insoluble dietary fiber, iron, calcium, and potassium. However, most kikurage available in Japan is imported and dried in China, making domestically grown kikurage both rare and valuable. To address this, we cultivate our kikurage locally without pesticides or insecticides, using organic sawdust and bran. Our farms are certified under Japan’s Organic JAS standards, ensuring quality and safety.
Furthermore, we carefully sun-dry our mushrooms to preserve their natural nutrients. Through our proprietary drying method, we’ve increased their vitamin D content by approximately 190 times—reaching up to 25,000 μg per 100g. This level can also be adjusted depending on the intended use. We proudly call this breakthrough Nichimo Foods’ “Super Kikurage.”
To make these rich nutrients more accessible, we developed the HIURA D+ series. This line allows for easy vitamin D intake in small quantities. Because it’s tasteless and odorless, it can seamlessly blend into everyday routines. Moreover, it comes in versatile forms: powder for mixing into foods, tablets suitable for all ages, and jelly that can even be given to pets.

Harnessing the Power of Kikurage — Safely and Naturally
The COVID-19 pandemic reshaped our lives and, in doing so, brought attention to a growing health concern: vitamin D deficiency caused by limited sunlight exposure. As a result, both physical and mental well-being have been increasingly affected.
In response, at Nichimo Foods, we saw this challenge as an opportunity to contribute to better health. That’s why we turned our attention to kikurage (wood ear mushrooms), a rare plant-based food naturally rich in vitamin D. Through years of research and innovation, we developed Super Kikurage, which contains up to 190 times more vitamin D than conventional dried kikurage.
To further expand its benefits, we created the versatile HIURA D+ series — available in powder, tablet, and jelly forms. This way, people of all ages (and even pets) can easily incorporate its wellness-boosting power into their daily routines.
